Igal's greatest chance is hidden in the medical water brought forth with a derrick installed on the old market place in the 1940-ies. Despite the suppositions - that there is oil in the region - what broke out from the 651 m depth was 81 °C water becoming well-known for its outstanding curative effect. In the sixties a decision was made: a spa shall be constructed in the village.

Two pools were opened on 20 August 1962, which were converted for wintertime use three years later so the service became available all the year round. In 1967 a swimming pool and three children's splash pools were built, and eight years later the facility, whose size increased with the council's purchase of a substantial property on the hillside, was extended by another pool.

The Igal spa, mostly owned by the local government, completing its fortieth year in 2002, has been operating as a medical spa since spring 2001. The water contains alkaline chloride and hidrogen carbonate, and owing to its iodide ion content, it is classified as an iodine water. Due to its high temperature and the mineral content it has a significant curative effect: supports the healing of rheumatoid locomotor diseases, post-lesial circulation disorders, articular problems. Also, it has a benign effect on chronic gynaecological complaints - menstrual disorders, tumours, cystitis, inflammations - as well as urological problems and spinal illnesses.

Moreover, it is used to treat chronic bronchitis, the inflammation of the accessory cavity, gastritis, hyperacidity, gastric and duodenal ulcer, haemorrhoids. As a drinking cure it is advised for metabolism and digestive disorders, deficiency of peristalsis, vascular fistula. Its iodine content makes it suitable to treat lesions, vascular fistula, whereas its bromide helps those suffering from insomnia, its fluoride on the other hand protects the teeth.

The development of the facility will carry on in 2003 with the indoor pools to be opened in the summer, enabling guests to enjoy all health services in one place. This will contribute to a variety of bathing and healing services in the following pools filled with marvellous medical water set at different temperatures:

- two open thermal pools (32-34 °C) - swimming pool (25 °C) - Castiglione pool (25 °C) - three children's splash pools (30 °C)

The spa employs a number of professionals - doctors, masseurs, gymnasts, two balneologists - who provide counsel for those seeking recovery and recreation. During the years, the guests can also take a number of other services: there are tangentor, medical gymnastics, medical refreshment, reflexology, weight bath, pedicure and manicure. In addition there are various sports facilities including a playground for children, and a basketball court, but lovers of table tennis and soccer were not forgotten about, either. A number of programmes are offered as added extras to the medical water: excursions, cultural programmes shake up life especially in summer months.
